El Departamento de Defensa de EEUU le devuelve su nombre al Fuerte Bragg

– Ubicado en el Estado de North Carolina.
– La Administración Biden/Harris no tuvo mejor idea que cambiar los nombres centenarios de varias instalaciones de las Fuerzas Armadas por motivos ajenos a los militares.

maquina-de-combate.com – El Departamento de Defensa de Estados Unidos ha renombrado al Fort Liberty, ubicado en el Estado de North Carolina, en el este del país norteamericano, para en adelante denominarle Fort Bragg. La administración Biden/Harris le cambió el nombre a la icónica instalación militar en junio de 2023, habida cuenta que llevaba el nombre de Fort Bragg en honor al General Braxton Bragg, quien prestó servicios para los Estados Confederados durante la Guerra Civil que estremeció Estados Unidos en la segunda mitad del siglo XIX.

Para merecer tal honor el General Bragg se habrá destacado como estratega militar y si bien defendía el lado equivocado que buscaba separar a la Unión estadounidense y buscaba preservar estilos de vida que incluían prácticas de esclavitud que hoy en día son impensables, es pues parte de la historia de Estados Unidos, les guste o no, y buscar reescribir la historia nunca ha sido una buena motivación.

El día de hoy, el secretario de Defensa de Estados Unidos, Pete Segseth, le ha cambiado el nombre al Fort Liberty a Fort Bragg en homenaje al valiente soldado Ronald Bragg, quien coincidentemente lleva el mismo apellido de aquel general del siglo XIX.

MEMORANDUM FOR ACTING SECRETARY OF THE ARMY

 

SUBJECT: Renaming of Fort Liberty

 

Pursuant to the authority of the Secretary of Defense, Title 10, United States Code,Section 113,1 direct the Army to change the name of Fort Liberty, North Carolina, to Fort Bragg, North Carolina, in honor of Private First Class Roland L. Bragg, who served with great distinction during World War II with the United States Army, and in recognition of the installation’s storied history of service to the United States of America.

 

Born in 1923 in Sabattus, Maine, Pfc. Bragg entered the U.S. Army service and was assigned to the 513th Parachute Infantry Regiment, 17th Airborne División, XVIII Airborne Corps, and was stationed at Fort Bragg during World War II. Pfc Bragg fought with distinction in the European theater of operations. He received the Silver Star for conspicuous gallantry and intrepidity. and the Purple Heart for wounds sustained during the Battle of the Bulge. During these hellish conditions and amidst ferocious fighting, Pfc. Bragg saved a fellow Soldier’s life by commandeering an enemy ambulance and driving it 20 miles to transport a fellow wounded warrior to an allied hospital in Belgium.

 

For nearly a century under the designation of Camp Bragg and subsequently Fort Bragg, tens of thousands of Soldiers trained and deployed to crises and conflicts around the world in defense of our nation. Fort Bragg has a long and proud history of equipping, training, and preparing our Soldiers to fight and prevail in any operational environment. This directive honors the personal courage and selfless service of all those who have trained to fight and win our nation´s wars, including Pfc. Bragg, and is in keeping with the installation’s esteemed and storied history.

 

The Secretary of the Army shall take all steps necessary and appropiate actions to implement this decisión in accordance with aplicable laws and regulations. The Army shall inform the Under Secretary of Defense for Acquisition and Sustainment of its plans, including timelines and resource requirements, for implementation of this decisión.
